Jim's New Bed

Jim's new bed was delivered today. Now I have never seen anything like it. It is what is called a sand bed. The bed is actually filled with sand. (Not from the beach) They then inflate the bed with air and this sand is moving all over the place underneath him. It feels like a waterbed but it's now. It is contantly bubbling and moving. The point of the whole bed is that his bedsores will not be continuously touching the mattress. It even feels somewhat like the pillows with the pebbles in them. Jim really seems to like the bed. It is heated like a waterbed and he seems very comfortable. Hopefully this will help the bed sores.
He was off the ventilator for half an hour today. It is the start of getting him weined again. He was very alert today and feeling pretty good. The doctors continue the antiobiotics and we continue to hope for the best. Jim is such a fighter and he really looked good tonight.
Tonight I celebrated Jackie's birthday with her. We went to Pincher's Crab Shack and had wine and shrimp. It was great. It was nice to get out and enjoy friends and family. I made a quick visit to the hospital after dinner and tucked Jim in for the night. He was ready to watch TV tonight.
